Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is an integral part of a pharmacy education program, as it covers several aspects of new drug discovery and development. The subject of Pharmaceutical Chemistry plays a vital role in grooming a student into a true Pharma Professional. The collaborative research environment within the department and with other departments of the institute will expose students to a wide array of modern state of art research not only in the pharmaceutical sciences but also interdisciplinary research, invaluable for a successful career in the chosen field. The department is involved in taking lectures in the subjects of organic chemistry, general chemistry, pharmaceutical / medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis for the undergraduate students in the four years B. Pharm course.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a stimulating discipline which links many scientific disciplines and allows for collaboration with researchers from other disciplines like biologists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, theoretical chemists, microbiologists, and bio-pharmacists in developing new drugs. One can place himself/herself in a competitive position by having a strong background in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
The department is equipped with the necessary instrumentation, promoting research to under graduate students, Master students and PhD research scholars. The faculty members are recognized authorities in their areas of specialization such as Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Design. The department is flourished from this base and currently represents world-class knowledge in structure prediction, analysis and interpretation, synthetic and chemical biology. The curriculum includes extensive lectures as well as laboratory sessions to ensure that students can connect theory to practice and apply their theoretical knowledge gained. The Pharmaceutical Analysis department is actively involved in Research and Development
